Music Ministry

Music is a wonderful tool that can be used to praise, honor, and reflect on God and is an essential element of worship.  Here at Lillington Baptist there are many opportunities to be a part of making music to the Lord, and all are welcome!

Bill and Kathy Sutter are our Ministers of Music. They have served Lillington Baptist for twenty-three years and would love to help you "find your niche" in ministering through music here at LBC.  We have two wonderful and dedicated keyboard players.  Ruby Long has been our faithful organist for sixty-two years.  Shirley Shelburne has served LBC as the pianist for eleven years.

Chancel Choir

Singing in the Chancel Choir is a wonderful opportunity to worship while helping lead others in worship. We sing a variety of two and four part choral music.  We work hard but we also have a lot of fun.  You don't have to be a "music reader" to sing with us - we'll help you!  Choir rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 – 8:30.  The Chancel Choir sings at the 11:00 traditional worship service on Sunday mornings.  It is open to Sr. High youth who are interested in choral music and all adults.  Hope to hear you at choir practice!

The Chancel Choir recorded a CD September of 2007 including some of our favorite anthems.  It is called "Sing for Joy" and is $10.  You can purchase one from the church office, Bill or Kathy, or a choir member.

 Praise Team

This is a small ensemble of singers and instrumentalists who periodically lead the music during our contemporary worship service at 8:45 on Sunday mornings.  If you feel led to be a part of this ministry, please contact Kathy.

Praise Ringers

This is a three octave handbell group that rehearses on Monday nights from 6:30 to 7:30.  Our goal is to ring as a part of the 11:00 worship service monthly.  We participate in handbell festivals, and have traveled to other churches to ring as well.  Experience is helpful, but not necessary.  If interested in being a part of this wonderful opportunity to “make a joyful noise unto the Lord,” contact Bill.  The Praise Ringers traditionally do not meet to rehearse during the summer months (June - August).

Children’s Music

The Little Lites is our preschool choir.  They meet on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 7:15 and accept children from ages three to five.

The Kids of the Kingdom choir welcomes first through fifth grade children and meets upstairs on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:15.  Both choirs explore singing, movement, and use of instruments (unpitched and Orff) to praise and worship the Lord.

These choirs perform periodically through the school year.  Please contact Kathy if you would be interested in leading or helping with one of these groups.  We follow the school calendar and do not meet during the summer months (June - August).

 Christmas Choir

This group is open to all (Senior High youth and adults) who are interested in being a part of leading in this special musical worship opportunity.  We usually begin in September by listening to the musical in the fellowship hall hosted with goodies by the Chancel Choir.  Rehearsals are on Sunday nights until the musical is presented in December.

Other opportunities...

If you have a musical skill and are not quite sure where it might be used, please let us know!  There are many ways you can use your gifts and talents, so please don't be shy - let Bill or Kathy know of your interests and abilities.  There is also a place to be a part through technology and sound - let Bill or Matthew know if you are interested in this area which is integral to our worship through music.
